That’s why we offer a membership-based primary care membership in Southern Pines, a functional medicine-inspired model that provides unlimited access to your primary care provider without the barriers of traditional insurance. Our members enjoy unlimited visits, discounted labs and medications, annual wellness exam options, and the ability to call or schedule directly with their provider to take charge of their health year-round.
We’re committed to providing high-quality, relationship-based healthcare. To ensure our patients get the very best, we only accept primary care patients on a membership basis. This means that in order to establish with Thrive for primary care, you’ll need to choose one of our two membership options:
- Insurance-Assisted Membership ($15/month, no setup fee)
For patients with qualifying insurance plans. The $15 monthly fee supports access to Thrive educational courses, discounted supplements and labs, and members-only benefits supplemental resources. Office visits are billed to your insurance. - Direct Pay Membership ($75/month + $130 one-time setup fee)
For patients without insurance coverage (or who prefer not to use it). The monthly fee includes all your visits as well as supplemental resources, direct messaging, and coordination of care.

What’s Not Included
Lab Fees
- You are responsible for any lab processing fees (either billed to your insurance or paid at Thrive’s discounted cash rate)
Prescription Medication Costs
- Medications are your financial responsibility (whether using insurance or cash pay)
Vaccinations
- We do not stock vaccines. We’ll provide orders for you to get vaccinated at local pharmacies or health departments.
Imaging (X-rays, MRI, etc.)
- We’ll order imaging when needed, but the imaging cost is billed separately by the imaging center.
Specialist Care
- Referrals are included, but visits to specialists are not.
Emergency Room or Hospital Care
- Thrive DPC does not cover emergency or hospital-based services. Patients should maintain insurance for catastrophic care.

Am I eligible to sign up for Thrive Primary Care?
Patients must be over 18 to receive primary care services at Thrive.
All new patients must attend their first primary care appointment in person at our Southern Pines office. Follow-up visits may be conducted in person or virtually; however, patients must be physically located within North Carolina at the time of any virtual appointment. Patients are required to notify Thrive Clinic of any address changes. Thrive reserves the right to deny or discontinue membership for those who violate this policy.
Which Thrive Primary Care plan should I choose?
You must select the Insurance-Assisted Membership if you have any of the following insurers as your primary insurance policy: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Ambetter, MedCost, Tricare Select (East region only), UMR, or UnitedHealthcare. At this membership level, you are eligible to receive covered primary care visits through your existing plan. Your $15/month membership allows you access to ancillary benefits such as medication/supplement discounts, educational materials, and more. Your membership fee does not include primary care or nutrition visits; you will continue to access all medically necessary services through your regular primary care visits, billed to insurance as usual.
If you are not insured by the above providers, you must sign up for the Direct Pay Membership ($75/month + $130 one-time setup fee).
Do you offer family plans?
Your spouse can be added to your membership upon request; both spouses will receive 10% off their monthly recurring membership. Minors cannot receive primary care services at Thrive.
Do I still need insurance if I have Thrive Primary Care?
While your Thrive Primary Care membership covers primary care (either via insurance or direct pay), we recommend having insurance for emergencies, hospitalizations, and specialty care. Please note those hold policies with the following insurers must sign up for the Insurance-Assisted Membership: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Ambetter, MedCost, Tricare Select (East only – Tricare West or Tricare for Life policy holders are eligible for DPC membership), UMR, or UnitedHealthcare.
Does Thrive Primary Care cover specialist visits or hospital care?
No, our membership plans focus on primary care. However, we can provide specialist referrals and help you find the most cost-effective options for additional care. If you pay for Thrive care using a Direct Primary Care membership, your consultations with specialists from our referrals can still be billed to your insurance plan.
What happens if I need urgent care or emergency services?
For minor urgent issues, you can contact your primary care provider directly. However, for true emergencies, you should visit an ER or urgent care center. Your Primary Care provider can help guide you on the best course of action.
Do I need to attend my visits in-person?
Your first primary care appointment must be held in person at our Southern Pines clinic. Any subsequent visits may be conducted either virtually or in person, as desired. Patients must be physically located within North Carolina at the time of any virtual appointment.
Are there any hidden fees?
No hidden fees! Your membership fee covers all primary care services within our practice. Any additional services, such as labs or imaging, will be offered at discounted rates with full transparency. For Insurance-Assisted members, your insurance policy might require copays or require that your deductible be met before they pay for care. We always recommend you check with your insurance company prior to beginning services with Thrive to avoid unexpected charges.
Can I cancel my Thrive Primary Care membership at any time?
Yes! Thrive Primary Care operates on a month-to-month basis with no long-term contracts. To cancel your Thrive Primary Care membership, contact our Membership Plan Administrator at karen@thrive-clinics.com.
How can I access my Thrive Member Portal?
All Thrive patients, regardless of membership status, have a patient portal. In this portal, you can message your care team, check labs and documents, and share files.
Additionally, Thrive patients with a monthly membership (i.e. DPC, insurance-assisted, or complex care), have a membership portal that shows billing history and that lists how to access your ancillary membership benefits. To get the link to this membership portal, or to cancel your monthly membership, you can contact Karen on our team (karen@thrive-clinics.com). Cancelations cannot be made within the portal and must be managed by our office.
