Primary Care

Transition to whole-health care

Looking for health care providers who make you feel heard?

Thrive’s membership-based Primary and Preventative Care provides regular wellness visits, screenings, referrals, and medication prescriptions, as well as continuing care for chronic conditions. We serve as the central manager of your healthcare team. Our primary care provider offers the choice of in-office or virtual visits, depending on your needs and preference.

At Thrive, our integrative approach goes beyond mere medication prescribing; we focus on healing from the root. Say goodbye to disjointed, bare-minimum care and experience the benefits of whole-person care.

Important: Thrive’s primary care is offered exclusively via membership. Choose the Insurance-Assisted Membership or Direct Pay Membership. Visits outside a membership plan are not available. Nutrition services continue to be available independently.

Our Approach to Primary Care Services

Thrive takes the confusion out of finding your solution by combining the best of primary care and powerfully effective functional medicine to address your health concerns from the root. Your membership includes:

Routine Preventative Care

Routine screenings, exams, and labs are critical for your disease prevention and care. We’ll make sure you’re on schedule with evidence-based standards.

Referral Management

Your primary care provider offers lifelong care and makes referrals to specialists when you need them. Examples include GI, endocrinology, cardiology, dermatology, etc.

Root-Cause Care

Instead of the typical 7 minutes, you’ll meet with your provider for 30-45 minutes to discuss your health plan. That’s so we can go beyond typical care to address health concerns at the root.

Get the best of both worlds.

Our primary health care providers (PCPs) are dedicated to helping you get healthy and stay well. You can expect comprehensive, personalized care and treatment based on deep empathy and expertise. Our providers have extensive training and experience in both traditional and functional medicine. You’ll get the evidence-based screenings, labs, and exams that are needed annually, but you’ll also get access to more complete root-cause care to guide you on your health journey.

Get Started

“My provider spent over 45 minutes with me. She listened and was incredibly thorough. She made me feel like I was her only patient of the day. The entire staff was very friendly and efficient. I am very grateful for her and the whole team.”

Why Membership Works

Traditional primary care often shortchanges you with rushed visits and surprise billing. At Thrive, membership enables:

  • Longer, thoughtful appointments (30–45 min) that address root causes
  • Ongoing access to your care team via messaging
  • Predictable, transparent pricing—not driven by procedure volume

Membership ensures we partner with you to prioritize your wellness.

Primary Care Membership Options

Your primary care questions answered.

Everyone should have a primary care provider and should be seen at least once per year. Your primary provider is like the quarterback of your healthcare team: they ensure that all of the important players are in place and serve as your healthcare team’s central communication node. They also ensure that critical screenings, exams, and lab tests are performed for preventative care.
Our primary care providers also offer health and wellness services for anyone seeking better solutions for their health needs. Whether you’re struggling with chronic health issues or want to optimize your overall well-being, we can help. Our healthcare model rests on six main pillars of health. These pillars are health empowerment, optimized nutrition, balanced exercise, quality sleep, stress management, and a detoxified environment. We can help you build a healthy lifestyle that benefits all areas of your life.

At Thrive, primary care is always delivered the same way: longer visits, personalized support, and ongoing access to your care team. Membership is required to receive primary care services at Thrive.  Depending on your insurance policy, you may choose from one of the following plans:

  • Insurance-Assisted Membership ($15/month): If your insurance plan covers Thrive, visits are billed to insurance. Your membership gives you added benefits such as access to supplemental resources like Thrive’s library of online courses, exclusive discounts on supplements, and much more. Eligible insurance providers include: BCBS, Tricare, United Healthcare, Cigna, Aetna, MedCost, & First Carolina Care. We have limited coverage for Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Direct Pay Membership ($75/month): If you don’t have Thrive-covered insurance, you can still access the same care and ancillary resources listed above through a simple monthly subscription.

Either way, you get comprehensive, relationship-based care with predictable costs.

Your first appointment will be with our fellowship-trained primary care provider Amber Tillman, FNP-C. The focus of the visit will be individualized based on the reason for your visit. If you’re establishing a new relationship for primary care, our provider will likely ask about your health history, any current concerns, and your health goals. If your first visit for primary care is due to illness or injury, you’ll also be asked about your symptoms and pain, as well as any home remedies you’ve tried.

To make the most of your family medicine appointment:

  • Arrive prepared with any questions you may have.
  • Bring your list of medications and supplements.

Please ensure that you complete our intake forms before you arrive. We will send these when you schedule.

  • We encourage established primary care patients to schedule for a virtual visit if you are sick. If you are experiencing acute illness at the time of your in-person visit, please call us to re-schedule or switch to tele-health. For acute needs, please visit urgent care.
In addition to longer visits and most holistic care, Thrive offers all conventional primary care services such as:
  • Medication prescription and management
  • Routine labs – drawn in-clinic and billed to insurance via LabCorp
  • Annual wellness exams
  • Sick visits
  • In-office electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)
  • In-office testing for flu, COVID-19, and strep
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Urinalysis
  • Cervical cancer screening (pap smear)
  • Colon cancer screening (Cologuard)
  • Specialist referrals (i.e. GI, endocrinology, OB/GYN, oncology, PT, dermatology, etc.)
Ideally, schedule for primary care before your first nutrition visit. After this visit, we will pair you with the ideal dietitian nutritionist for your needs and goals. Starting with primary care will improve this pairing, the quality of your nutrition care, and the overall outcomes that you achieve with Thrive. This order may also improve your insurance coverage for nutrition.
For primary care labs, please follow the below instructions:
  • 10-12 hrs fasting: ONLY WATER allowed prior to blood draw
  • Stop all vitamins and supplements 3 days prior to lab draw
  • If you are having a PSA (prostate lab) MEN ONLY: No strenuous exercising, sexual activity, hot tubs, riding bike, or other riding (lawn mower etc.) for 3 days prior to lab draw
  • Please ask your pharmacy to submit the request to us electronically. We try to respond to medication renewal requests within 3 business days. However, many renewal requests require additional lab work or a provider encounter prior to placing the prescription order. So, we recommend reaching out to us about a renewal when you have at least a month’s worth of medication remaining to prevent a lapse in treatment.
