Essential & Comprehensive Primary Care Meets Powerful Integrative Therapies

Essential Primary Care Meets Powerful Integrative Therapies

Primary Care

Thrive is your central healthcare provider. Our comprehensive primary care providers manage all key aspects of your health, including medications, screenings, referrals, and routine labs. Since we work with the whole family, we also provide well-child exams and physicals annually. They also collaborate with your nutrition professional to create coordinated care plans to find and address your root causes.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition is a powerful healing tool, yet one that most primary care offices don’t specialize in. At Thrive, our licensed nutrition professionals work with you and your primary care team to create a plan that is realistic, achievable, effective, and that allows you to live your life fully.

Functional Medicine

Functional medicine is an evolution of healthcare that helps you achieve actual health by treating the body as a whole, interconnected entity. Our functional medicine-trained practitioners use a systems-based approach that uses your body’s data to find and address the root cause of an issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Food is medicine. After helping thousands of people overcome chronic illnesses and feel healthier and more confident in their skin, we know the power that nutrition has on our overall well-being. Unfortunately, most primary care practices aren’t able to provide the nutrition and dietary support most people need to truly reach their health goals.

That’s why Thrive designed a model that blends essential and comprehensive primary care with the transformative power of nutrition therapy. This model not only allows you to maximize your insurance benefits but also accelerates your healing process and sets the foundation for a lifetime of good health.

Functional nutrition or integrative nutrition is a practice that joins integrative and functional medicine principles with conventional nutrition practices. Functional medicine is designed to be a collaborative experience that allows practitioners and patients to work on the underlying cause of disease and achieve optimal wellness together. It focuses on why and how illness occurs to address the root cause.

With conventional nutrition, recommendations are often based on addressing symptoms rather than the underlying cause. These practices tend to follow government guidelines and provide recommendations for disease states and the population as a whole as opposed to treating the individual separately. Managing chronic conditions through nutrition is vital, but interventions can fall short when they don’t offer the client the best, evidenced-based option for actually improving their physiology.
Integrative nutrition acknowledges that, in addition to optimizing diet, addressing the root causes of a health concern is critical for lasting health improvement. Rather than focusing on calorie limits or macronutrient balance alone, your functional nutrition plan may include lab tests to pinpoint your root causes, a streamlined and customized supplement protocol, healing meal plans that fit your lifestyle, and ongoing support in all areas of well-being.
Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. However, an RD/RDN has an accredited college degree in clinical nutrition, a 1200-hour clinical internship, and has passed a board exam in clinical nutrition. The RDN is the only truly medical nutrition credential in the United States, with the exception of the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) in some states. RDNs are also required to maintain their medical license by earning ongoing, approved continuing education in clinical nutrition.
In North Carolina, RDNs must additionally earn a license (LDN) in order to practice. LDNs are the ONLY nutritionists who are legally allowed to give individualized nutrition advice in North Carolina. Thus, if you are getting individualized nutrition advice from a gym, a chiropractor, or a friend, that individual is practicing illegally, and may pose a risk to you. You can learn more about nutrition licensure in North Carolina from the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition: https://www.ncbdn.org/.

Every situation is different. On average, our patients meet with their primary care doctor at least once per year and as needed after that. Most patients start nutrition therapy with an on-ramp program, then meet with their integrative nutritionist monthly or as needed as they approach their wellness goals. Visit spacing is reassessed at each consultation.
Yes! Your annual primary care visit must be in-person at our office, but you are free to choose in-person or virtual visits for all other appointments. Meet your primary care team online via our secure telehealth platform, or visit us in person at our clinic in Moore County, NC. If you are using insurance, check to make sure your plan covers virtual appointments.
For primary care, initial appointments are 45 minutes, and follow-ups are 30 minutes. You get more than double the typical time so that your concerns can be thoroughly addressed.

For nutrition, your initial consultation is 75 minutes, and follow-up appointments are 60 minutes. In addition to unlimited messaging via our patient portal, you can also schedule short, 15-minute consultations in between monthly visits if needed.
