Autoimmune Conditions

Achieve relief (or even remission) of autoimmune conditions with nutrition-centric primary care.

You don’t have to live at the mercy of your autoimmune condition.

Often, people with an autoimmune disease are given the false impression that they’re on a life-long decline that can’t be slowed. This couldn’t be further from the truth! In reality, many factors can be improved with an individualized food-first autoimmune plan.

At Thrive, we combine the power of primary care with the power of food to address the critical underlying factors of autoimmunity, such as gut health, nutritional imbalances, dietary triggers, inflammation, stress, hormone imbalances, and more. While not everyone will experience remission with our autoimmune protocol, it’s rare that our clients with an autoimmune disease don’t experience significant symptom improvement.

Your autoimmunity questions, answered.

Autoimmune conditions occur when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy tissues and organs. The exact cause is often a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental triggers, which can include infections, stress, and certain lifestyle factors.

One of the most crucial factors to consider when managing autoimmunity is gut health. Many people with gut health problems have intestinal permeability, or ‘leaky gut’. This condition allows food proteins to escape through the gut lining and into the body, which triggers the immune system. In response, the immune system then develops antibodies in these food proteins, which cab look like some human tissues. This is known as molecular mimicry, which results in an autoimmune attack on your own tissue.

Stress can also be a major player in autoimmune diseases, and it’s common for autoimmunity to be triggered by a stressful life event. That’s why our care team takes a big picture approach when helping you heal your autoimmunity, and focuses not just on the immune system, but the gut, hormone balance, and stress management.
Autoimmune conditions can leave you with a wide range of symptoms that vary depending on the specific disorder and the affected organs or systems.

While each person affected by autoimmunity has a unique experience, some common symptoms include fatigue, joint pain, muscle aches, fever, skin rashes, and unexplained weight changes. Additionally, individuals with autoimmune diseases may experience symptoms related to the targeted organs or tissues, such as digestive problems, hair loss, mood disturbances, and neurological issues. Autoimmune conditions often have a “flare-up and remission” pattern, where symptoms worsen periodically, which can make managing your symptoms challenging — until you address the root causes with a functional approach.
At Thrive, we blend conventional medicine with expert nutrition therapy and functional medicine to help you reverse autoimmunity and restore your health. Rather than simply treat symptoms like fatigue or pain, we get to the root of the problem so you can reverse autoimmunity and work towards remission. Here’s how we do it:
  • Identify core drivers of your autoimmunity
  • Develop an anti-inflammatory diet, eliminate food triggers, and add nutrient-dense foods
  • Identify and resolve environmental exposures that perpetuate autoimmunity
  • Plan ways to address imbalances in sleep and/or stress
  • Implement your plan effectively, even if your energy is slow or your symptoms are overpowering
